OrganizationPrairie State Legal Services, Inc.
Prairie State Legal Services seeks volunteer attorneys and law students to staff the Foreclosure Help Desk located at the Kane County Courthouse in Geneva on Mondays-Fridays from 9am – 11:30am. We are particularly in need of volunteers on Thursdays. Volunteers provide basic foreclosure information to unrepresented homeowners, including information about the foreclosure timeline and litigation process. Volunteers do not give legal advice or represent homeowners in litigation. This opportunity is ideal for volunteers who want to have a meaningful impact on the lives of unrepresented homeowners, but who do not want to commit to handling a lengthy foreclosure litigation case.
No prior foreclosure experience is required. Prairie State will provide substantive foreclosure training as needed. Volunteers are asked to commit to a schedule, to be agreed upon by Prairie State and the volunteer; most volunteers volunteer one day per week.
